Information about applying to a 4 Year University
Students who are interested in attending a 4 year University must read important information located on the UC College Planning page.
Choosing to attend college is a significant and important milestone in any person's path through life. Data shows that attending college and earning a degree often leads individuals to greater opportunities and more choices in life. The decision to apply ultimately depends on people knowing what they want, what they are capable, and what they are willing to commit to achieve.
When we talk about college, we recognize that college is one path of many that people may pursue. We encourage people to also explore programs in Vocational, Trade, and Technical schools that cater to each individual's interests and abilities. People make choices in life. Whether it's college or other kinds of schools, we hope the information that we can provide helps people make an informed decision with every step towards the future.
Community College
There are two local community colleges, among other institutions, that are well known in our area: Diablo Valley College (DVC) and Los Medanos College (LMC). We will highlight key areas that you need to know, and we strongly advise students to follow the enrollment procedures as specified directly on DVC and LMC’s respective websites.
Diablo Valley College (DVC)
*Enrolling as a High School Student
- While you are in high school, you can attend DVC.
- The credits you earn can be applied to both college and high school.
- One (1) College Credit is worth 3.33 High School Credits.
- Tuition is very low for concurrent students.
- Follow the directions as specified on DVC’s website for High School Students.
*Enrolling as a Graduating High School Senior
- Students will complete two applications to DVC.
- Follow the directions as specified on DVC’s website for Graduating High School Students.
Los Medanos College (LMC)
What to know about LMC
- While you are in high school, you can attend LMC.
- The credits you earn can be applied to both college and high school.
- One (1) College Credit is worth 3.33 High School Credits.
- Tuition is low for concurrent students.
*Enrolling as a High School Student
- Follow the directions as specified on LMC’s website for "New to LMC" students.
*Enrolling as a Graduating High School Senior
- Follow the directions as specified on LMC’s website for "Graduating High School Senior" students.
California State University
There are 23 campuses in the California State University (CSU) system. Each campus has its own website that describes location, available programs, and application process. Students can easily research the strengths of each campus be exploring CSU's main website.

There are 10 campuses and multiple locations in the University of California (UC) system. Each campus has its own website that describes location, available programs, and application process. Students can easily research the strengths of each campus be exploring UC's main website.
